The Thomas Bedford Memorial Prize has been awarded to Dr Ioannis Basinas and co-authors for the most outstanding paper published in the Annals of Work Exposures over a two year period, following a recommendation by the Editorial Board.

Senior IOM scientist Dr Ioannis Basinas led the study that observed a reduction in dust exposure to farmers through the implementation of a simple intervention based on information regarding their actual exposure levels and general exposure reduction measures.

The winning paper "Feedback on measured dust concentrations reduces exposure levels among farmers” was co-authored by; Torben Sigsgaard, Jakob Hjort Bønløkke, Nils Testrup Andersen, Øyvind Omland, Hans Kromhout, and Vivi Schlünssen. The prize will be awarded at next year’s OH2019 conference in Brighton.

“This paper highlights the positive reductions that can be realised by making measurement results and simple information available, in this case, to farmers. This very simple and cost-efficient exposure reduction approach can, however, be applied more widely to assist exposure reduction programs in workplaces. Along with my co-authors, I’m honoured to accept this award.” Dr Ioannis Basinas
